FX were tough to get right on this page but I think it worked out in the end.

Oh, this does not look good for LL.
Your FX came out very well.

It's pretty close to how I imagined it.

You did fine work, friend. It was definitely worth the effort and not just the obvious. The facial expressions are perfect.

OK, that grin on Nightchantress's face is just seriously creepy. Well Done!

On a side note, looking back on the comments of the previous page, if I can put my 7 cents in (inflation and all)...

This is your story, and you are telling it well. It's may be a little rough going week to week like this for some, but the end results are worth it!

I for one am willing to let the story unfold at it's own pace, and I'm pretty sure I can get a few amens to that from the congregation!!!!

I was particularly happy with Nightchantress' evil grin. For whatever reason, that particular model, which was certainly not created to be a supervillain (she's supposed to be a sexy runway model type) has a really good face for evil grins.

I too am willing to let the story unfold. But in my defense, I am also taking advantage of this unique forum to give feedback as the stories unfold.

I always include in my feedback any frustrations that may arise. Yes, even if they are not actionable because "it's just my bugaboo" or personal baggage, or not actionable either due to the publishing schedule (one page per week) or the frequency of issues (only about 2 per year), or the lead-time for story creation (the next few comics have likely already been completed and are not really modifiable at this point).

I love being able to give feedback, I really do. And I appreciate Steven's willingness to receive input. That's AMAZING, and most artists may say they want it, but really aren't open to it.

Most importantly, these stories and this multiple-way communication forum offer me an incredible opportunity to LEARN about storytelling, which is something I've always wanted to do, but haven't yet attempted.

And then there's the usefulness aspect:

Everybody else coming here on a regular basis is already doing a great job of giving kudos. If I only bring the same things as everybody else, then my presence here, although maybe nice, would be quite frankly, unnecessary.

So as long as I'm welcome, I will continue to share whatever comes to my mind and heart as I read through Abbey's stories. Even if that includes a heartfelt desire for a badguy to get a good punch in the nose or a hard kick to the groin. That's just me; wishing pain upon criminals, even in the Bronze Age! :D

And thank you Steven!

As others have mentioned, I like the effects too.

But I'm a little confused. Can LL not see the bright purple glowing giant lit cigarette coming at her face? I would think she could at least see that, even if she couldn't see the enemy's body or the stick itself.

I mean, it's a bright purple glowing lit torch emitting light. Yet she didn't even put her arms up to block it. I must be missing something.

LL cannot see anything. You can see it because you are the reader. I'm showing you what is happening otherwise this page would just be blank.

But this is an intensified Darkness field. It is not normal night. Power effects like the staff cannot be seen unless you have enhanced vision. Which LL lost when the goggles were shot off her face.

NC can see through it because she is immune to her own darkness field.

And you can see through it because you are the audience. ;)

Got it! That wasn't obvious to me for light-emitting objects.

If you go back and read the fight through again (when there are large delays like this, I sometimes go re-read the context), you'll note that on the previous page, Abby thinks to herself (after she's lost her glasses) that she can't see ANYTHING, even though the reader is seeing the Nightchantress standing right next to her.

In context, I think it works fine, but as a "one page a week" release, things like that are easy to miss/forget.
